GRAND PIANOFORTE by Conrad Graf, Vienna, c. 1836

Despite his successful career, Gustav Mahler was not well off until his marriage in 1902, so it is not surprising that in the 1880s he owned a pianoforte, which would have been considered very ‘second-hand’ at that time. This instrument was acquired in 1993 from Mahler’s grand-daughter, Marina.
