Guildhall Cantata Ensemble returns to Hatchlands with this programme of cantatas for voice, virtuoso violin and continuo by Bach and his predecessors, including ‘Mein Hertz ist bereit’ by Bruhns. Although titled ‘Concerto’, this is not a concertante work for instrumental soloists (eg: double bass). It is a cantata, with a short instrumental Adagio-Presto-Adagio section preceding the vocal section. Vocal works “concerto” were not uncommon in Bruhns’ day.
